Visit the New River Gorge for a weekend of three amazing, fun competitions, the New River Gorge Challenge, The Fayetteville Town & Country 5k, and the Thurmond Triathlon.
The Captain Thurmond’s Challenge consists of 28.5 miles of the most extreme Mountain Biking, White Water and Running in the state and some would say the East Coast. The triathlon can be done as a Solo, Relay Team, or Raft Team.
The Fayetteville Town & Country 5k takes runners from downtown Fayetteville along local streets to the historic Gaines Estate, a pastoral setting with big sky views and rolling grass fields.
The Thurmond Triathlon is a beginner triathlon open to anyone 7 years of age and older. Individuals, duos or families will bike from the Historic Thurmond Depot 2 miles to Stonecliff where they will then paddle 1.5 miles to the Dun Glen Day Use area. From there contestants will run a two mile loop around the Historic Town of Thurmond.
